Sleep and depression
Sleep problems in patients suffering from depression is common. Treatment of the depressive episode does not always resolve the sleep problems. Particular sleep problems which arise during a depressive episode may require focused and specific interventions.
Untreated problems, such as insomnia, increases the risk of future relapses of depression.
The use of specific antidepressants which has sedation as a side effect, may be useful in the initial management.
